A dual sport star in the 1960’s, Tommy excelled in both baseball and basketball during his playing days at Valdosta State. He played both sports all four years with the school and was a two-year starter in basketball while starting all four seasons on the baseball diamond. Tommy was a valuable member of three Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball and two SIAC baseball championship teams during the school’s NAIA days and earned All-Conference honors in baseball in 1965 while being named the VSU Most Valuable Player.
