A four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the women’s basketball team, Kathy Kennedy Matthews starred for the Lady Blazers between 1993 and 1997. She played in 107 career games, scoring 1,045 career points and grabbing 763 career rebounds. Kennedy started all 56 games played during her junior and senior seasons and led the team in rebounding both seasons, averaging 10.9 rebounds as a junior and 12.7 as a senior. She was named All-Gulf South Conference in each of her last two seasons and led VSU to the NCAA regional tournament as a senior. Kenney also earned the GSC’s Commissioner Trophy as the league’s top female student-athlete and was named honorable mention All-America her senior season.
