A legend in the NCAA Division II coaching ranks, John Hansen has built both the VSU men’s and women’s tennis teams into national powers as he has directed his teams to a combined 14 South Atlantic and Gulf South Conference championships and has been named conference Coach of the Year on 17 occasions. Now in his 38th year as head coach of the Blazers and Lady Blazers, Hansen has coached 47 All-American players and has had an athlete named All-Gulf South Conference 118 times. He has directed the VSU women’s tennis team to 12 NCAA tournament appearances while his men’s teams have played in NCAA postseason play 16 times. Hansen’s two squads have finished in the top eight in the nation a combined 12 times, including the 2006 men’s squad that won the NCAA title.
