As the Valdosta State golf coach from 1987 through 2000, Nicky Balanis led Valdosta State to Gulf South Conference championships in 1989, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2000. He was named GSC Coach of the Year in each of those five seasons and led the Blazers to 10 NCAA Championship appearances. He coached 25 All-Americans and 30 All-GSC honorees and saw his team finish in the top 10 in the country on nine times, including a second-place finish in 1989.
