Skip Fite played second base and shortstop for Valdosta State baseball for two seasons in 1976 and 1977. During his two seasons, Fite hit .341 with 17 doubles, four triples, 43 RBIs, and 48 stolen bases. He struck out just 22 times in 413 at bats in his Blazer career.  Fite earned All-America honors in 1977, and helped lead the Blazers to an NCAA Regional Championship and a berth in the 1977 College World Series.  Following graduation, Fite had a very successful career at the collegiate level in coaching for 39 years.  He coached for 25 seasons at Augusta University and four at Brewton-Parker, before ten seasons at the helm at West Georgia where he retired in 2019.  As a head coach, he amassed more than 950 victories and was elected to the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2014.
