Klaus Acker was a standout tennis player for VSU from 1997-98. In his two-year career, he was 33-10 in singles and 35-9 in doubles. In 1998, he was the Gulf South Conference’s Player of the Year, and was ranked No. 3 in the nation. He was an All-American and All-Conference selection both years, and led the 1997 Blazers to the national quarterfinals.
“It was the best time I ever had,” Acker said in his HOF acceptance speech. “The environment you are around is very important, and this was a great environment. Valdosta State has a great tennis program, and a great coach in John Hansen. I really enjoyed playing tennis here.”
Since earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from VSU, Acker has returned to his native Germany.
