PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Xavier University of Louisiana in a 5-1 loss on Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
With the loss, the Lady Blazers fell to 6-12 on the season, while the Gold Nuggets boosted their record to 15-7 overall.
Valdosta State picked up their only win of the day, when No. 33 ranked
Sabrina Schmidt and Estee Widdershoven defeated Yi Chen Pao and Mariia Borodii in an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Charlene Goreau and Angela Charles-Alfred picked up an 8-3 win over
Daniella Barta and
Anke Poncelet, and
Taylor Vinge and Hera Brynjarsdottir fell to Lacee Ancar and Farah Baklonti, 8-5, at No. 3.
Xavier University of Louisiana got the three wins they needed in the final three singles positions, starting with a 6-2, 6-0 win for Manon Bonada over Brynjarsdottir at No. 4. Baklonti toppled Vinge 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Chen Pao closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Valdosta State will return to action on Sunday for their final regular season match of the season, a 9:00 a.m. match against Hawaii Pacific in Pensacola, Fla.
