PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 16 Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 7 Mississippi College in Gulf South Conference action Friday in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers fell to 8-5 on the year and 4-1 in GSC play, while Mississippi College improved to 19-0 overall and 7-0 in league play.
The Choctaws won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to take the early lead. No. 2-ranked duo of Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett won 6-4 at the top spot over Blazer tandem of
Lena Beckx and
Milica Prokic. At No. 3, Katharina Weber and Molly Bennett won 7-6 over
Kitti Nemeth and
Carmelle Vial.
MC won all six singles matches and five in straight-sets. Vial won the second set 6-3 No. 5 singles over Cabot Stockett after dropping the first set 6-1 and dropped the super tiebreaker 10-8 after the match already had been clinched.
The Blazers head to Coastal Georgia on Monday for a makeup match from earlier in the season with a 2 p.m. start.
