VALDOSTA, Ga. - Florian Simbozel put together an incredible start to his collegiate career at Valdosta State with a strong opening weekend. As a result, he earned not only Freshman of the Week honors from the Gulf South Conference, but he was also named the GSC Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office on Wednesday.

Simbozel, out of Paris, France, was perfect on the week with a 2-0 effort at No. 2 singles and a matching 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles. He took down Jean-Baptiste Mateo of No. 6 ranked Lynn at No. 2 singles on Saturday, which followed up a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Philipp Hoffmann of Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday. In doubles action, he teamed up with Jordi Mas at No.1 doubles to record dominant 8-1 and 8-2 victories at the top doubles spot on Friday and Saturday.

The Blazers will be back in action on February 24th against the North Alabama Lions. The neutral match in Pensacola, Fla. is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
