PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Lady Blazer tennis team won their second match in as many days and extended their current winning streak to four after a 7-2 Gulf South Conference win over Christian Brothers on Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
Valdosta State improved their record to 8-6 overall and bumped their GSC record to 6-2 following the victory, while CBU remained winless at 0-5 overall and 0-2 in GSC play.
The only two losses of the day for the No. 23 Lady Blazers came at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by way of forfeit. The remaining doubles matches saw
Jennifer Rink and
Anke Poncelet pick up dominant 8-1 win over Meg Mattis and Lauren Woog at No. 1, while
Bea Morales Hernandez and
Joanna Lario blew by Carley Lane and Tyler Napier 8-0 at No. 2.
Morales Hernandez secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lane at No. 1 singles, and Rink kept momentum for the Lady Blazers with yet another 6-0, 6-0 win over Woog at No. 2.
Lario blistered Mattis at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph, and Poncelet extended VSU's lead to 6-2 with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Rebecca Johnston at No. 4. Freshman
Taylor Vinge capped off the rout with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Napier at No. 5.
