VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State Blazers women's tennis closed the regular season in dominant fashion with a 4-0 sweep over
Tampa Spartans women's tennis on Saturday in Valdosta, Georgia.
The Blazers (10-8) secured their first winning season since 2017, setting the tone early by claiming the doubles point. The pairing of Kitti Nemeth and Carmelle Vial rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 3, while Ivana Castillo Hurtado and Charleigh Fay sealed the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
In singles play, VSU wasted no time putting the match away:
- Carmelle Vial extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5
- Kitti Nemeth followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6
- Milica Prokic clinched the match at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 decision
With the win, Valdosta State heads into the Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 4 seed. They'll face No. 5 seed Lee Flames women's tennis on April 23 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at 6 p.m. ET.
