VALDOSTA, Ga. – The three-time defending Gulf South Conference champion and 2021 national runner-up Valdosta State football team announced its August Camp schedule Friday.

Under first year head coach Tremaine Jackson, the Blazers open camp on Friday, Aug. 5 at 8:20 a.m., at the VSU Football Practice Fields.  VSU will have 23 practices prior to opening the 2022 season Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium versus Keiser University.  This marks the first Thursday night football game at VSU since 2015, and the first time opening the season on a Thursday since 1993.

The players will report on Aug. 4 for meetings and paperwork, before the first practice on the fifth.  Following the first practice, the second will be in helmets on Aug. 6, while the subsequent three practices will be in shells with the team going full-pads on Thursday, Aug. 11 for the first time.

The complete VSU Blazer Fall Camp practice schedule is listed below and ALL camp dates/times are subject to change without notice.  VSU also will feature two Saturday morning "scrums" on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20, respectively.

Fall camp is scheduled to conclude Aug. 14 as fall classes begin Aug. 15.  From there, the Blazers will go into their normal fall practices and preparation for Keiser.  Game week begins on Sunday, Aug. 28 with a walk-thru on Aug. 31 prior to the game the next day.

VSU went 12-2 last season and earned a berth in the national title game for the second time in four years.  The Blazers won their fourth national title in football in 2018 with a thrilling 49-47 victory over Ferris State.  VSU shared the 2021 Gulf South Conference title with West Florida, each finishing at 6-1 in league play.  The Blazers have won or shared nine conference titles in program history tying for second-most all-time in GSC history as former member North Alabama leads the way with 13 and Jacksonville State (Ala.) also had nine titles.

The Blazers return a wealth of experience from last season and were recently selected second nationally in the Lindy's Sports Division II Top 25, while rising senior quarterback Ivory Durham was named First Team Preseason All-America by the publication.

VSU has five outstanding home games this season and the possibility of a sixth with the GSC Challenge scheduled for Nov. 12.  The GSC enters the second year of a partnership with FloSports for live streaming coverage of all home Blazer football games and all GSC football contests this fall.
