Blazers Remain 17th Following Second Round of NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team dropped 12 strokes from Thursday for a 301 score on Friday in the second round of the 2019 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional at Mission Inn Resort and Club.  VSU has a 36-hole score of 614 heading into Saturday's final round.
 
West Florida and Lynn overtake the top spot each with a 36-hole score of 585.  Both teams shot even par Thursday and were at a 297 on Friday.  Lincoln Memorial, who opened the tournament with a 3-under 285, fell to third with a 590 score on the par 72, 6,960-yard course.  Florida Southern moved up four spots Friday with a 292 score and sits fourth, while Barry moved up one spot and is tied for fifth with a 596 score with Columbus State.
 
The top seven teams following tomorrow's final round will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship May 20-24 at the Resort at Glades Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.  Along with the top seven teams, the top two individuals from non-advancing teams also will qualify for the national championship round. 
 
Georgia Southwestern individual Vincent Norman carded a tournament-low round of 66 on Friday to jump 14 places after a 74 Thursday to take over the lead with a 36-hole score of 140 for a 4-under.  Nova Southeastern's Juan Jose Guerra and Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury are tied for second at 3-under 141, while LMU's Sam Broadhurst is fourth at 2-under 142.  There is a four-way tie for fifth at even par 144. 
 
VSU freshman Brock Healy fired a team-low 71 on Friday for a 151 score and is tied for 36th.  Freshman Davis Smith sits tied for 45th with a 152 score on rounds of 77 and 75, while senior Matt Anderson carded a 75 on Friday for a 155 score and sits tied for 65th.  Freshman Gage Smith is tied for 71st with a 156 score on rounds of 76 and 80, while sophomore Wesley Hanson is 101st with a 163 score on rounds of 81 and 82. 
 
The Blazers will play with Queens (N.C.) and five of the six individuals beginning at 8:20 a.m. on hole 10 Saturday morning.  Check back with vstateblazers.com on the men's golf schedule page for a complete recap of the final round.
