Burki, Carestam and Nilehn Earn Academic All-District Honors as Selected by CSC

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State senior men's golfer Joshua Burki, along with juniors William Carestam and Alexander Nilehn earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men's At-Large honors announced Tuesday.  
 
Burki, a native of Bern, Switzerland, played all four years for the Blazers and earned GSC Academic Honor Roll four times, while being named to the Cobalt Golf Scholar All-America Team in 2024.  

This season, Burki played in ten tournaments for 28 rounds and finished with a 75.3 stroke average.  He finished a season-best 30th at The Griffin Invitational (Sept. 15-16) with a 223 score on rounds of 75, 73, 75.  He finished a 3.64 grade-point average in international business.  
 
Carestam came to VSU this season from University of Charleston (W.Va.) where he played in 12 tournaments for 36 rounds and finished with a 72.6 average.  The Gothemburg, Sweden, native, earned Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Week twice and qualified as an individual for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Valdosta Country Club this past May.  He finished with 30 rounds in the 70s and five in the 60s.  Carestam had two top ten finishes this season with his best being sixth at the NSU Shark Invitational with a 209 score (68, 72, 69). 
 
Prior to VSU, he played in 62 rounds at Charleston where he played in the NCAA South Regional both seasons for the Golden Eagles.  Carestam has a 3.9 GPA at VSU in finance.  
 
Nilehn, capped another outstanding season for the red and black as he earned an individual berth in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional finishing 55th with a 54-hole score of 221.  This season, he competed in 12 tournaments and 36 rounds, posting 33 rounds in the 70s and two in the 60s. He recorded a season-low round of 66 at the Saint Leo Invitational and registered one top-three finish, tying for third at The Griffin Invitational. Nilehn also recorded four top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place finish at the 2026 GSC Championships with a 3-under-par 213.

Nilehn earned Second Team All-GSC honors for the second straight season in 2026 and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for the second time in his career.  He also earned GSC All-Academic honors in 2026 for the first time. He has earned GSC Academic Honor Roll accolades for three-straight years. He currently carries a 3.65 grade-point average while majoring in finance.
 
Last season, Nilehn was named a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar. For his career, he has competed in 31 tournaments and 91 rounds, compiling a 73.6 stroke average. He has recorded 78 rounds in the 70s and 10 rounds in the 60s during his collegiate career.
