Softball Moves to Fourth in Latest NFCA Top 25

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State softball team moved up to fourth this week in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25, released Wednesday. 
 
The Blazers garnered three first place votes in the poll this week, following a No. 7 ranking last week and a No. 22 ranking prior to the season.  Saint Anselm moved into the top spot this week after ranking No. 2 last week.  Last week's top-ranked team, Angelo State, lost three games to West Texas A&M and moved to sixth this week.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce moved to second in the poll this week with four first place nods, followed by Southern Arkansas at No. 3 and VSU fourth, followed by Concordia Irvine rounded out the top five with the final remaining first place vote. 
 
The Rambelles were sixth this week, followed by North Georgia, Chico State, Florida Tech and West Florida is tenth for the second-straight week.  Gulf South Conference member Alabama Huntsville moved to 16th this week after ranking 20th last week. Mississippi College is among others receiving votes. 
 
VSU travels to Flagler for a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 2 p.m.  The Blazers then return home to open the 2019 home season at Steel's Diamond Mar. 2-3 versus Union.  VSU and Union will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 3 p.m., followed by a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
