Chloe Eichelberger and senior
Saylor McNearney were named Second Team All-Gulf South Conference, the league announced Wednesday morning.
McNearney, an outfielder and native of Kennesaw, Ga., has started all 48 games for the red and black this season and is second on the team in average at a .331 clip. She has a team-high 51 hits with a team-best 43 runs scored, while registering nine doubles, one triple and a team-best 12 home runs. She has 28 RBI and walked 28 times. McNearney is slugging .636 for the season and has an on base average of .437, while she leads the team in stolen bases at 17 of 19 thefts. She has 16 multi-hit games this season with a season-high three hits and six multi-RBI games for the year with a season-high four RBI three times.
This season, McNearney is third in the GSC in home runs (12) for 51
st nationally, while she is seventh in the league in runs scored (43) and sixth in the league in walks per game at a 0.58 clip. For her career, McNearney has played in 201 games with 201 starts and a career .282 batting average with 166 hits, 159 runs scored, 27 doubles, three triples and 45 home runs placing her in the top ten all-time in program history in round-trippers. She has 130 RBI and walked 108 times with a .567 slugging percentage and a .396 on base clip.
Eichelberger, a native of Tampa, Fla., became the everyday designated player this year and has played in 43 games with 29 starts this year as she leads the team hitting .389 for the season. She has 37 hits with 13 runs scored, five doubles, ten home runs and 27 RBI. Eichelberger has seven multi-hit games this season and six multi-RBI games, while she tallied a season-high five RBI with two home runs against nationally ranked Auburn Montgomery (4/4). She earned GSC Player of the Week honors and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week on Feb. 25.
This season, she has a 1.222 OPS, while slugging .758 and reaching base at a .464 clip. She is seventh in the GSC in home runs (10), while she leads the league in slugging percentage (.758) for 47
th nationally.
AUM's Chloe Baynes was named. GSC Player of the Year, while teammate Reese Cauley was named Pitcher of the Year. West Florida's Miranda Harmon was named Freshman of the Year, while Argonaut head coach Ashleigh McLean was named Coach of the Year, guiding UWF to its first regular season title since 2019.
The inaugural Gold Glove was comprised of nine defensive standouts from six schools. Named to the lineup was UAH's Baylee Darby (2B), AUM's Baynes (OF) and Rebecca Komers (SS), Mississippi College's Blakely Gill (C) and Shelby Samples (OF), Montevallo's Riley Tyree (1B), West Alabama's Megan Roe (P) and Trinity Hatcher (OF), and West Florida's Nicole Mergen (3B).
