VALDOSTA, Ga.-  Valdosta State redshirt sophomore football running back Jamar Thompkins and sophomore women's soccer forward Lauren Hicks were named Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week, announced Wednesday afternoon.
 
Thompkins ran for a career-high three touchdowns as the top-ranked Blazer football team downed Mississippi College last Saturday afternoon 42-17 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium to run its school-record winning streak to 20 games.  Thompkins leads the Gulf South Conference in rushing yards (521) for 15^th nationally, and leads the nation in yards per carry at 9.3.  He is averaging 104.2 yards per game on the ground for 17^th nationally and first in the GSC.  Thompkins has six rushing touchdowns on the year for 20^th nationally. 
 
The top-ranked Blazers put their 20-game winning streak on the line at Delta State on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.  Fans can access links to live stats and audio/video streaming of the game at vstateblazers.com on the football schedule page.  Keep in mind Delta State charges for the webstream of its games. The game also will be broadcast on 92.1 WDDQ FM in Valdosta, with Spencer Van Horn and Wade Beale having the call of the game.  
 
Hicks scored two goals in the second half, on Sunday, as the Blazer women's soccer team got back on the winning track with a 2-1 victory at Alabama Huntsville.  Hicks has scored three goals with one assist and seven points for the season as she is third on the team in scoring.  This marked her second career game of scoring multiple goals as she scored two goals in the 2018 season-opener against Albany State in her first collegiate game.  
 
The VSU soccer team returns to action Sunday, Oct., 13, at 1 p.m. against West Georgia at the VSU Soccer Field to begin a three-match homestand.
