Cipriani and Lewis Named Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State junior women's cross country runner Angie Cipriani and senior women's soccer standout Ashley Lewis were named Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week. 
 
Cipriani, a Thomasville, Ga., native, had an outstanding race at the Queen's City Invitational in Charlotte, N.C., last Friday evening.  She recorded a personal of 18:47, finishing 21st overall and seventh among NCAA Division II institutions.  Cipriani was the first student-athlete from a Gulf South Conference school to cross the finish line.  
 
Her 18:47 time Friday marked the third PR of the season for her, as she opened the year with a 19:56 at the Border Clash and then a 19:36 at the Mountain Dew Invitational the next week. 
 
Cipriani and the Blazers return to the course Oct. 11 at 8 a.m. at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahasse, Fla.  
 
Lewis, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., tallied her second career hat trick with three goals and one assist in a 6-0 win over Auburn Montgomery on Sunday.  Lewis finished the week with three goals and two assists as the Blazers went 1-1 for the week.  She had nine shots with six on frame for the week in the two matches.  
 
She leads the team with five goals and two assists on the year for 12 points.  Lewis has 19 shots (.263) and 12 on frame (.632) with two game winners.
 
The Blazers return to the road on Friday and Sunday at West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville, respectively.  Check back with vstateblazers.com for links to live stats and streaming for the matches. 
 
Cipriani is the first women's cross country student-athlete to earn Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athlete of the Week, while Lewis is the first women's soccer player to earn the honor.
