VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's cross country team has the honor of highlighting sophomore Caitlyn Koske as this week's Gulf South Conference Runner of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday. This marks only the third time in program history a women's cross country runner has been tabbed Runner of the Week as Jordanne Halton and Julianna Boehm received the honor in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Koske, a native of Perry, Ga., earned 61st overall in the FSU invite on Oct. 7 with a PR time of 18:49.9, breaking her PR set on Sept. 17 with a time of 19:07.4.  She helped the Blazer cross country team place 20th out of 30 teams and eighth out of the nine DII schools as the team also had the best average time of the season with an average time of 20:41 this past weekend. Six of the eight DII teams were regionally ranked in the top eight of either the South or Southeast Regions.

The sophomore was also the 18th DII racer across the line as she steadily moved up 15 positions in the last two miles at the FSU Invite.  In addition, she has also moved to fourth on the VSU cross country 5K best times so far this season.

Koske and the Blazer cross country teams are back in action at the UAB XC Invitational in Montevallo, Ala. on Friday. The women's race is slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET while the men will start at 10:40 a.m. ET.
