PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Valdosta State Blazers tennis teams had a strong showing at South Region Championships last weekend, hosted by West Florida.
 
VSU senior Yohan Nguyen and junior Florian Simbozel took home the win in Men's Doubles. Freshman Edward Etty went 1-1 in singles. Nguyen/Simbozel won 8-2 and 8-6 in the first two rounds to reach the semifinal. There, the duo advanced the final with another 8-6 win. The duo then finished off the competition defeating a team from Delta State for the championship victory.
 
On the women's side, the duo of senior Estée Widdershoven and freshman Rachel Starreveld went 1-1. Sophomores Birte Langstein and Eva Rivoal fell 8-7 in a tightly contested first round matchup. Langstein and Widdershoven each went 1-1 in singles play. Rivoal and Starreveld both dropped close, first round matches.
