  • SENIOR NIGHT - Valdosta State will recognize their four seniors in a pregame ceremony approximately 15 minutes prior to tipoff.
  • UNCHARTED TERRITORY - Never before in the history of Valdosta State basketball have the Blazers won as many games in a row at home as they have this season. VSU's current 18 game winning streak is the longest series of consecutive wins ever recorded in a single season. Valdosta State did record 20 consecutive wins over the course of two seasons, which started in the 1960-61 season and carried over into the 1961-62 season. The Blazers' current streak also marks the longest since Alabama-Huntsville won 20 straight back in 2012.
  • QUEST FOR REGIONAL SUPREMACY - Valdosta State is currently ranked No. 8 in the country and No. 2 in the South Region. The Blazers are gunning for Morehouse, who currently holds the top spot in the South Region with just one loss on the year.
  • HOME SWEET HOME - With last Saturday's win over North Alabama, the Blazers extended their current streak at home to 23 games, a stretch that dates back to early January of 2017. The series of consecutive wins marks the longest home winning streak recorded by a team in the Gulf South Conference in 30 years. The Blazers success this season has earned the team the right to host the first round of the Gulf South Conference tournament for the second consecutive season. The first round game will take place next Tuesday, February 27th, immediately after the Lady Blazers host a first round game of their own.
  • FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING - In the regular season week of his collegiate career, senior forward Jimmy Kodet made the most of it by earning his first ever Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honor. Kodet sparked the Blazers last Wednesday night against Montevallo with a couple of key three pointers - one toward the end of regulation and one late in overtime - that helped the Blazers keep their winning streak intact. The senior didn't stop on the offensive end, however, and he delivered what was potentially a game saving block on the defensive end in the very same contest. The momentum for Kodet rolled right into Saturday's matchup against the rival Lions of North Alabama, when the Michigan native led his team with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and a 7-of-12 effort from beyond the arc. In addition, he pulled down 10 rebounds on Saturday to record his fourth double-double of the season. All total on the week, Kodet averaged 22.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game over the course of the two games. Furthermore, he blocked seven shots, shot 54.5 percent from the three point line (12-of-22) and connected on 16-of-28 from the field for 57.1 percent.

NO. 15 WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS
24-3, 16-3 GSC
NEWS | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS | ROSTER
  • SERIES HISTORY - Valdosta State and West Florida will meet for the 55th time in history on Thursday night. The Blazers hold a 34-20 all-time advantage over the Argonauts.
  • AMONG THE BEST - West Florida currently sits alongside Valdosta State as one of the only two teams to rank among the top 25 teams in the country. The Argonauts climbed up to No. 15 in the latest NABC poll, and UWF ranks just behind the Blazers at No. 3 in the latest South Regional rankings. The Argonauts recently clinched the number two seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament, and the team will host a first round GSC game for the first time in program history on Tuesday, February 27th. Their opponent will be the number seven seed in the conference, a seeding which has not yet been filled.
  • LAST TIME OUT - The Argonauts hosted the Blazers at the UWF Field House back on December 2nd and handed VSU one of its only two losses of the season. West Florida used 27 points from Darryl Tucker to hold off a late comeback attempt by Valdosta State and held on for a 97-88 victory at home. The loss represents VSU's only conference loss of the 2017-18 season.
