MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Valdosta State women's team fantastic season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon, as the No. 11 ranked Lady Blazers suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of No. 2 ranked Barry in the South 1 Regional Final in Miami Shores, Fla.
Barry opened up doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3, as Verena Schmid and Isa Rapisarda Calvo overtook
Laura Ubeda and
Estes Widdershoven, before Zuza Maciejewska and Dasha Salnikova toppled
Anja Cosovic and
Daniella Barta, 8-5, at No. 2.
The nation's No. 4 ranked doubles contingent, Ana Pain and Sonja Larsen, took down
Bea Morales Hernandez and Anke Poncelet to close out doubles action with an 8-4 victory to give the Lady Bucs a 3-0 advantage.
Larsen carried Barry's momentum into singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Poncelet at No. 5, and No. 21 ranked Rapisarda Calvo outlasted
Sabrina Schmidt, 6-2, 6-2, to seal the match.
Valdosta State concluded their season at 17-7 overall.
