MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State Lady Blazer tennis team will compete in the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championship game, thanks to an impressive 5-0 win over the Tigers of West Alabama in the semifinal round of the GSC Tournament at O'Connor Tennis Center on Friday in Montgomery, Ala.
 
The Lady Blazers took control of the semifinal contest early with a clean sweep in doubles action, beginning with Bea Morales Hernandez and Anke Poncelet, who cruised to an 8-3 win over Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral at No. 1. Laura Ubeda and Sabrina Schmidt handled business at No. 2 with an 8-5 win over Liliana Araucz and Andrea Tomassone, and Daniella Barta teamed up with Josephine Jedrochowski to crush Evelyn Moreno and Sandra Florez, 8-0, at No. 3.
 
In singles play, Jedrochowski and Poncelet gave the Blazers the two points they needed to end the match with 6-1, 6-2 victories over Tomassone and Araucz, respectively, at No. 4 and No. 5.
 
Valdosta State improved to 12-7 on the season with the win and will compete against the West Florida Argonauts in the championship matchup, which is slated for a noon EST start at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.
