VALDOSTA, Ga. - In an announcement made by the league office Thursday,
Chris Longoria was voted on as one of 13 Gulf South Conference student-athletes to earn a spot on the 2015-16 GSC Fireseeds Winter All-Academic Team. In addition, Longoria joined three other men's basketball players and ten women's basketball players to be named to the 2015-16 GSC Winter Honor Roll.
Longoria, who was forced to miss an early portion of the 2015-16 schedule due to an injury suffered during preseason, came on just before the midway point of the season and immediately became an impact player. The senior made up for lost time to finish off a sensational senior season with an average of 13.1 points per game. Longoria started 19 of VSU's 28 contests after being cleared to play and scored 20 or more points in four of those contests. His top performance came in just his third game of the season against Mississippi College on December 19, 2015, when the Newnan, Ga. native racked up 28 points on ten field goals and five three pointers.
The GSC All-Academic award for Longoria comes in recognition of an effort in the classroom that led to a 3.89 GPA, a number for the Business Administration major that represents the top GPA among all of his teammates.
The Gulf South Conference's Honor Roll is made up of student-athletes who have established a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the classroom, and the Blazers and Lady Blazers represented Valdosta State well on the list of honorees. Ten of Head Coach
Kiley Hill's women's basketball players made the cut, including
