VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Lady Blazers of Valdosta State Tennis suffered a South Region setback on Friday in a 5-0 loss to No. 5 ranked Lynn at the VSU Tennis Courts in Valdosta, Ga.
Lynn (3-1) moved in front quickly with a 3-0 start in doubles action that included a win for Diana Bogolii and Rosalie Willig at No. 1 over
Bea Morales Hernandez and
Josephine Jedrychowski, 8-1. Grace Mpassy and Carolina Cuevas followed suit, defeating
Laura Ubeda and
Sabrina Schmidt 8-4 at No. 2, before
Anke Poncelet and
Daniella Barta fell to Alina Jane and Martina Gledacheva, 8-4 at No. 3.
Only two results were necessary in singles action to decide the match, as Bogolii defeated Morales Hernandez at No. 1 6-3, 6-1, and Mpassy outlasted Jedrychowski 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
The Blazers, who entered the day ranked at No. 15, fell to a 3-3 record on the year following the defeat.
The Lady Blazers will now enter conference play, beginning with the Shorter Hawks on March 5th. Action is scheduled to take place in Titletown at the VSU Tennis Courts and will begin at 10:00 a.m.
