VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State Lady Blazer women's tennis team dropped a 8-1 Gulf South Conference match to No. 7 West Florida on Sunday at the VSU Tennis Courts in Valdosta, Ga.
Bea Morales Hernandez was a bright spot for the Lady Blazers at No. 1 singles on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Monika Kochanova, who currently ranks at No. 4 among all NCAA Division II singles players.
The rest of the day, however, belonged to to the Argonauts. West Florida ran the table the rest of the way in singles action, as Laure-Eline Faure overtook
Jennifer Rink by a narrow 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 margin at No. 2, while Kat Dikosavljevic picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over
Joanna Lario at No. 3.
Singles action concluded with a 6-0, 6-1 win for Nina Bubelova over VSU's
Anke Poncelet at No. 4 and a 6-2, 6-1 victory for Fernanda Amaral over
Taylor Vinge.
In doubles play, Kochanova and Faure edged out Rink and Poncelet at No. 1, and Bubelova teamed up with Ameral to defeat Morales and Lario 8-4 at No. 2.
Both the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match went to West Florida by default.
The loss evened up VSU's overall record at 4-4 and 2-1 in GSC play, while West Florida improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 against GSC opponents.
The Lady Blazers return to action on Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. match at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga.
