VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State closes out its 2014-15 season as the Blazers host West Florida in Gulf South Conference action at The Complex Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m..
VSU will honor its three seniors -
Colin Cook,
James Spencer and
Lester Moore - prior to the start of the game as the three play their final game in the Red and Black.
The Blazers enter Saturday's game with a record of 9-18 on the season and are 4-17 in Gulf South Conference play. Meanwhile, West Florida is 7-20 on the season and 3-18 against league competition.
Spencer, who is the only Blazer to start all 27 games thus far, paces Valdosta State with 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game and has recorded 32 steals and 22 blocked shots on the season. Meanwhile, Cook pours in 10.2 points and 6.2 boards a contest and has a team-high 63 blocked shots, which ranks second-best in the GSC this season. Moore currently averages 2.0 points a game, but has started each of the last three contests and has averaged 7.7 points a game during that span.
VSU enters the game averaging 76.0 points a game and shoots 42.3 percent from the floor. The Blazers give up 80.2 points a game and allow foes to shoot 47.2 percent, but have been adept at causing turnovers on the season as they force nearly 16 per game.
West Florida is led by Erin Straughn, a graduate student who transferred from East Carolina prior to the start of the season. Straughn averages 11.5 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. Meanwhile, Lendward Griffin adds 10.6 points and 6.1 boards a game.
UWF is one of the best rebounding teams in the conference as it averages 39.0 per game, but is hampered by turnovers as the Argonauts commit more than 16 per game. In fact, UWF has committed 105 more turnovers than their opponents on the season.
