Brown and Pena Earn NCBWA All-South Region Honors

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Blazer baseball senior duo of Orlando Pena and Ryan Brown have been named to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II All-South Region Second Team, announced on Friday afternoon.
 
Lynn University's Cole Fowler was named Player of the Year while CJ Williams of Tampa was named Pitcher of the Year with Tampa's Joe Urso being named Coach of the Year.
 
The south region is composed of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), Gulf South Conference (GSC), and Southeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) while both the first and second team were composed of 17 players across the three conferences.
 
Orlando Pena was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Year for the seventh time in VSU history as the third baseman led the GSC in home runs (20), RBI (79), slugging percentage (.724), and OPS (1.144). Pena led the team in batting average as the senior hit .344 while going 66-192 at the plate and got on base at a .420 clip while hitting 11 doubles and one triple.
 
Ryan Brown was most recently named to Second Team All-GSC as the southpaw appeared in 22 games and held a 2.18 ERA while going 4-1. The High Springs, Fla. product picked up eight saves and held opponents to a .238 batting average while striking out 23 and walking eight in 33.0 innings pitched.
