DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Valdosta State baseball team (18-29) picked up a midweek road win Tuesday evening, defeating Embry-Riddle (18-22) by a 7-5 margin at Sliwa Stadium.
The Blazers wasted no time, scoring a run in the first inning before capitalizing on a big second to take control. After the Eagles answered, Valdosta State responded again in the third and continued to apply pressure, adding insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
Offensively, the Blazers were powered by a balanced effort, totaling eight hits and drawing five walks. Senior Marcos Sevillano set the pace, going 2-for-4 with a game-high three runs scored.
Senior Brent Howard added a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3, while sophomore Parker Ladd delivered a team-high three RBI. Junior Luke Flading and senior Jackson Webster each drove in a run, helping Valdosta State cash in on scoring opportunities.
On the mound, the Blazers put together the win with a bullpen-heavy approach after redshirt freshman Boomer Dunn got the start. Dunn worked 1.1 innings before turning things over to a bullpen that combined to keep the Eagles in check.
Senior Preston James (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning in relief, while senior Keaton Fuller shut the door in the ninth to record his second save of the season.
Embry-Riddle was led offensively by Max McClusky and Torin Foley, who each recorded two hits, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize despite drawing nine walks.
Valdosta State's pitching staff worked around traffic, stranding 11 runners on its way to a 7-5 victory.
