VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State baseball ace
Hunter Booth has been named Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Region Pitcher of the Week, announced on Tuesday afternoon.
This is Booth's second time earning GSC Pitcher of the Week on his career, as he was GSC Pitcher of the Week on April 30, 2024. The Saint Petersburg, Fla. product is the second Blazer pitcher to be named Pitcher of the Week as fellow starter
Drake LaRoche was tabbed with the honor back on Feb. 4 before going on the win NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week.
Hunter Booth fanned a career high 13 batters in a 5-1 win over the red hot Lee Flames on Saturday afternoon. Lee had won nine of their last ten GSC games entering this matchup and only scored a single run on three hits off the VSU righty. Booth would log seven innings of work and allow a single run as he walked four batters on 118 pitches. Booth's 13 strikeouts are the most in the game by a VSU starting pitcher since Elijah Gil did it back in March of 2021 against Union.
The Blazers are currently sitting in second place in the GSC as they are 24-17 overall and 18-8 in GSC play. The Blazers hit the road this week for four games before concluding the regular season at home next week with four games.
