VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State Blazer baseball team will welcome the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Wednesday, Mar. 6 at 5 p.m. for a mid-week showdown. VSU enters with a 9-7 (4-5 GSC) record while ERU is 9-6 (2-1 SSC) on the year.

Valdosta State is welcoming in Embry-Riddle after they took two out of three from the Union Bulldogs this past weekend at Billy Grant Field. For the weekend, senior Ryan Romano went on an absolute tear, going 6-10 with seven runs scored, three RBIs, and a double to earn Steel's Athlete of the Week honors. For the season, the all-around player is batting .479 which is tops in conference as of Mar. 5. On top of the average, Romano is getting on base at a .567 clip while only striking out six times in 48 at-bats. On Saturday, sophomore Anthony Martens was stellar on the bump, going five innings and fanning nine bulldogs while allowing six to reach base for the start. The West Florida transfer picked up his first win as a Blazer as VSU came out on top 7-4.

Embry-Riddle was picked to finish in eighth in the Sunshine State Conference earlier this season by their league office. As it stands on Mar. 5, the Eagles currently sit in third place and are 2-1 in conference play. ERU is led by head coach Randy Stegall, who is in his 16th season at the helm of the Eagles, where he holds a career record of 525-305 with eight 40+ win seasons during his time in Daytona Beach, Fla. Stegall's offense is led by senior infielder Camden Traficante, who is hitting an impressive team-leading .473 while also leading the team in hits, home runs, RBIs, doubles, triples, runs, walks and on-base percentage. The do it all player leads the leagues in OPS, OBP, and slugging percentage, as he really puts the Eagles on his back. On the mound, redshirt sophomore Tristan Harley has been great in his role, going 1-2 in six appearances while starting in two. The Tallahassee, Fla. native holds an ERA of 2.50 on the season in 18.0 innings pitched.

Following tomorrow's matchup with the Eagles, the Blazers will hit the road and head to Livingston, Ala. to take on the West Alabama Tigers for a three-game weekend set with games one and two on Saturday, Mar. 9 starting at 2 p.m. ET followed by game two 30 minutes after.
