MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 6-1 win at Montevallo Wednesday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play. The Blazers improved to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in GSC play, while the Falcons fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.
The Blazers claimed the early lead sweeping the doubles matches, dropped just three games between the three matches. Top duo of junior

Denisa Hanakova bageled UM's tandem of Klara Podskubkova and L. Harlonhner, 6-0, while juniors
Olivia Pezo and
Kayla Greco won 6-1 at No. 2 to claim the point over Claire Jaramba and Greta Vagnini. At No. 3, sophomore
Evelyn Altmaier and junior
Valentina Jimenez, who saw her first action of the season, won 6-2 over Latizia Bojara and Johanna Kullman.
Hanakova won 7-6 (7-5) and 6-1 at No. 2 over Jaramba for a 2-0 lead for the first match done in singles play, while freshman
Natalie Rainke battled back from a 4-6 loss in the first set, winning 12 of 14 games over the final two sets for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot over Podskubkova and a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons got on the board with a hard-fought, three-set win by Hartlohner over freshman
Aneta Poborilova at No. 3, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, but the Blazers closed the door on Wednesday as Pezo clinched the match at No. 5, 6-3, 6-3, over Bojara. Greco won 6-3, 6-2 over London Breedlove at No. 4, for a 5-1 lead and Altmaier won 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 at No. 6 over Kullman to finish the match.
VSU returns home to prepare for No. 16 Embry-Riddle to visit on Saturday, Mar. 23 at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
