VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team will host its annual "Play for Kay" Pink Game on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m., at The Complex versus Gulf South Conference rival West Alabama.

The event, spearheaded by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), is named in honor of legendary North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease.  Lady Blazer fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game on Feb. 29.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. The Lady Blazers have partnered with Southern OB/GYN who will provide 100 pink shirts to fans at the game to help promote the initiative.

Donations can be made to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund online at: www.kayyow.com. There will be additional information on how to donate at the gate.

The No. 8-ranked Lady Blazers continue at home this week, hosting Christian Brothers on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a pivotal matchup with No. 3 Union on Saturday at 2 p.m., in The Complex.   The Lady Blazers then return to the road for three games, before returning home for the "Play for Kay" Pink Game on Feb. 29, and then at home on Mar. 2 versus Alabama Huntsville for Senior Day to conclude the regular season.
