No. 1-Ranked Blazer Football Earns Top-Seed in Super Region Two and Coveted First Round Bye for NCAA Postseason

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Coming off its 11th Gulf South Conference championship with a dominating 28-7 victory over No. 16 West Florida on Saturday, the top-ranked Valdosta State football team learned Sunday evening it is the No. 1-seed in Super Region Two as announced on the NCAA Division II Football Selection Show.
 
VSU, as the top seed in the region, will receive a first round bye and will face the winner of No. 4-seed Miles College versus Carson-Newman on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.  This marks the fourth time in the past six championships played the Blazers have earned the top-seed in the Super Region.  Check back with vstateblazers.com and on social media next week for the game time of the Nov. 30 game.
 
Wingate, the winners of the South Atlantic Conference, earned the No. 2 seed and will face Virginia Union out of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) while West Alabama is the No. 3-seed and will host Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend.  
 
The first round of the NCAA postseason is set for Saturday, Nov. 23, while the second round is Nov. 30, followed by the regional quarterfinals on Dec. 7.  With the top-seed, VSU would host through December 7 should the Blazers advance.  The final four teams, which makeup the winners of each of the four Super Regions, will be reseeded for the national semifinal round, scheduled for Dec. 14.  The NCAA Division II National Championship game is once again scheduled for McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas, on Dec. 21.
 
VSU stands at 10-0 this season marking its fifth undefeated regular season in program history and finished 6-0 in Gulf South Conference play following the win Saturday evening.  The Blazers tallied three shutouts during the regular season for the most in a season in program history, while they have scored 431 points for a 43.1 average and allowed just 91 points this season for a 9.1 average.  VSU is sixth nationally in scoring offense and third nationally in scoring defense.  Head coach Tremaine Jackson is in his third year at the helm of the Blazers and is 37-11 overall in five seasons of coaching and 27-8 at VSU.  
 
Tickets will go on sale Monday, Nov. 18, at 9 a.m., in the VSU Athletic Ticket Office or by calling 229-333-SEAT (7328) for the Nov. 30 game.  Blazer season ticket holders have until Monday, Nov. 25 to purchase their tickets for the playoffs, before they are released to the public.  Non-season ticket holders can purchase tickets online from Monday, Nov. 18, to 3 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 29.  The Blazer Athletic Ticket Office will be open the week of Thanksgiving only on Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26.
 
Reserved seats for the playoffs are $20, while adult general admission tickets are $12 and youth/senior tickets are $8.  There will be no military discount for the postseason.  
 
The Blazers last played in McKinney in the championship in 2021, finishing as national runner-up, while they won the 2018 national championship in a 49-47 thriller over Ferris State, also in McKinney, for the program's fourth national title in football and eighth national title overall as an institution at that time.  VSU now has nine national titles in school history, winning the 2024 men's tennis national title this past spring. 
 
VSU's six national title appearances in football (4-2) are tied for third-most all-time in NCAA Division II, as are its four national titles.  Northwest Missouri State leads the way with six national titles and ten appearances, while former D2 member North Dakota State has five championships in seven appearances.  The Blazers and Grand Valley State are tied for third in both.  
 
The Blazers are 31-15 all-time in 19 appearances in the NCAA postseason, while the 31 victories are fourth-most all-time in D2 and third-most among active institutions.  The 19 appearances are tied for fifth-most all-time and fourth-most among current D2 schools.  
 
VSU went 2-1 in the postseason in 2023 under Jackson, defeating Limestone 62-41 and winning at Delta State 38-31, before losing to Lenoir-Rhyne 35-7 in the regional final in Valdosta.  Since 2018, the Blazers are 9-3 in the playoffs with four appearances.
