VALDOSTA, Ga. – Following its 35-10 victory over Mississippi College on Homecoming last Saturday, the Valdosta State football team moved up one spot to No. 2 in both the D2Football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 polls.
In the AFCA poll and in the D2Football.com poll, Grand Valley State takes over the top spot following Harding's 17-13 loss at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday evening. VSU is second in both polls while it has three first-place votes in the AFCA poll and GVSU has the remaining 27 first-place nods.
Ferris State sits third in the AFCA poll, while Pittsburg State is third in D2Football. Ferris State is fourth in D2Football, while Kutztown is fourth in AFCA. Ouachita Baptist moves to fifth according to the coaches, while Kutztown is fifth in the D2Football poll.
Click on the links to the right of this story for both polls. VSU has been third in both polls since Sept. 16, 2024. The No. 2 ranking is the highest for VSU since Sept. 5, 2022, as the Blazers were second in D2Football.com, while VSU was second at the end of the 2021 season in the AFCA poll where it finished national runner-up. AFCA had the Blazers third in its poll to begin the 2022 season.
VSU, who is 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play as the only remaining unbeaten team in the league, has its bye week this week and then will host Chowan on Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
