This Week in Blazer Athletics 9/19

The Valdosta State Blazers have a big week ahead, as they host a total of five games/matches in the span of three days across multiple sports.
 
Volleyball:
The Blazers are coming into the week with a 7-4 record as they begin conference play. Having hosted the Blazer Volleyball Fall Tournament, VSU is well prepared to play at home. The Blazers are boasting two student-athletes that have received weekly conference honors. Sophomore Katie Callenberger received GSC Defensive Player of the Week on 9/5 and junior Christina Pettigrew was GSC Player of the Week on 9/12. The red and black open conference play on Tuesday at West Georgia, before returning home to host two GSC matches this weekend at The Complex.
  • September 22nd match versus Shorter at The Complex at 6 p.m.
  • September 23rd match versus Lee at The Complex at 1 p.m.
 
Soccer:
Valdosta State is entering the weekend holding a 3-1-2 record. They have already played two road conference games, defeated Auburn Montgomery and fell to Montevallo, 1-0. Earlier in the season, the Blazers tied then-No. 2 ranked Embry-Riddle in the home opener with the score being 1-1. The Blazers are led by senior Ana Moleka, who received GSC Player of the Week honors on 9/5. She was followed up by junior Molly Wooldridge and freshman goalkeeper Tori Vliet who received GSC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on 9/12. The Blazers look to continue their ascent hosting two home matches this weekend.
  • September 22nd match versus Alabama Huntsville at the Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
  • September 24th match versus West Alabama at the Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.
 
Football:
VSU is entering conference play boasting a 3-0 record. They are led by junior quarterback Sammy Edwards, who just recently received his second Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. The Blazers are on the brink of being ranked nationally, currently receiving the 26th most votes in the country. They look to stay hot this Saturday evening at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
  • September 23rd game versus North Greenville at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium at 7 p.m.
