LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Valdosta State softball team moved to tenth in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Preseason Top 25, announced by the organization Tuesday.
Defending national champion Rogers State leads the poll with a perfect 6-0 record while UT Tyler (Texas) is second with a 7-1 record, followed by North Georgia who is 4-1. Cal State Dominguez Hills fell from second to fourth with a 6-3 record while Tampa rounds out the top five with a 5-0 record, jumping from the 17th spot in the preseason poll.
Central Oklahoma sits at sixth, followed by Seton Hill, Lubbock Christian, and Adelphi with the Blazers rounding out the top ten. Gulf South Conference foe Alabama Huntsville is 20th while other GSC opponent Auburn Montgomery fell out of the Top 25 after being number four in the preseason poll.
The Blazers are currently 3-1 with a two-game sweep against Palm Beach Atlantic and a split with Nova Southeastern back on Feb. 3 and 4. Since then, Valdosta State has had games against Barry, Columbus State, Tuskegee, Georgia Southwestern and Converse postponed due to weather. No makeup dates have been announced at this point.
The Blazers are set to open the 2023 home season as well as Gulf South Conference play this weekend in a three-game series against Mississippi College. The series is set for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18, beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a single game Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
