CARROLLTON, Ga. – Behind a balanced scoring attack, the No. 24 Valdosta State women's basketball team posted a 79-57 victory at West Georgia in the regular season finale for both teams. VSU was led by 13 points off the bench from freshman
India Jordan and graduate student
Mallory Odell.
VSU ran its winning streak to a season-best eight games with the victory and finished the regular season with a 22-4 record overall and a 17-2 mark in the GSC. The Lady Blazers already had locked up the No. 2-seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championship and now will host No. 7-seed West Alabama on Tuesday, Mar. 1 at 7 p.m. in The Complex for the Quarterfinal Round of the GSC Championship.

In the inaugural Red Clay Rivalry Series, VSU claimed a point with the victory tonight by sweeping the season series with UWG. VSU leads 5-2 this season in the rivalry series as UWG won both games on the men's side to claim a point Saturday by its sweep this season of the Blazers.

Taylor Searcey chipped in 12 points off the bench, while sophomore starter
Lili Long added 11 points along with ten points from both graduate students
Nicole Heyn and
Kwajelin Farrar. As a team, VSU shot 44.8 percent from the field on 30 of 67 from the field, while the team was 10 of 27 from deep and 9 of 14 from the line. UWG (9-15, 6-13 GSC) was led by a game-high 18 points from Siera Carter, while Jaylin Austin chipped in 11 points. UWG shot 44.2 percent on 23 of 52 from the field, while it was 4 of 13 from deep and 7 of 13 from the line. VSU held a 43-31 lead in rebounding.
A trey from Heyn broke a 10-10 score as VSU closed the first quarter on a 13-6 run for a 23-16 lead through one frame. UWG pulled within five on a jumper from Carter with 9:32 remaining in the first half at 23-18, but a trey from Long stretched the lead back to eight at 26-18. Sophomore
Tamiya Francis hit two free throws for a 30-20 lead with 6:56 remaining in the half. Back-to-back 3's from Jordan and Searcey put VSU up 36-24 with 2:05 left in the half. Searcey hit two free throws for a 42-26 lead at intermission.
Heyn's layup pushed the lead to 21 at 59-38 with 1:21 left in the third quarter and VSU led 61-38 through three frames. In the fourth, VSU built the lead to as many as 27, before UWG cut it back to 21 and eventually the Lady Blazers settled for the 79-57 victory.
