Blazer Baseball Volunteers for Miracle League

VALDOSTA, Ga. - On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, the Valdosta State Blazer baseball team volunteered at the Miracle League of Valdosta, for the first time.

"To give back to the community is everything," said junior catcher Jacob Harper. "It's an honor and privilege to help the place that has been there for me and allowed me to grow and become who I am today."

The Miracle League of Valdosta is a non-profit organization where children and adults with disabilities play organized sports. Each athlete is paired with volunteer or "buddies" who assist them in batting/kicking, catching, throwing, and running.

The Blazer baseball team played kickball at the Miracle Field Complex with its "buddies", as well as helping them warmup and run out onto the field before the game. In 2019, Miracle Field became the new home for the Miracle League of Valdosta when it was built as the nation's largest Miracle Field. This field is the centerpiece of the Miracle Field Complex at Freedom Park in Valdosta, Ga.

"My favorite part about the Miracle League was seeing how happy it made those individuals out there participating," said redshirt senior Ralph Morla Jr. "We are very grateful we were able to have the chance to use our abilities and spare time to make that happen for them. Deep down we know we made their days but really, they made ours."
