MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team enhanced its seeding in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championship with a very important 4-3 victory over Christian Brothers Friday afternoon at Lagoon Park & O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. The Blazers finished the regular season 6-8 and 6-4 in GSC play, while Christian Brothers fell to 10-5 and 5-5 in league play.

Birte Langenstein won at No. 3 over Eva Garcia and Laura Brazuelo, 6-3. CBU won at No. 1 as Esther Guemes and Raquel Amaro downed VSU duo of senior Estee Widdershoven and sophomore

Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir pulled out a thrilling 6-4 win at No. 2 over Gabriella Marin and Nellina Wooten to claim the important team point.
With the doubles point in hand, the momentum continued for the Blazers into singles play winning three of the first four matches finished to win the match. Guemes pulled CBU within 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rivoal at No. 2, but wins by Brynjarsdottir at No. 6, and Langenstein at No. 4, both in straight sets, gave VSU a 3-1 lead. Starreveld came up with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win at No. 3 over Marin for the fourth team point and the victory.
Brazuelo won at No. 5 over Saving, 6-7, (3-7), 6-3, 11-9. Widdershoven responded from a 6-1 opening set loss to No. 5 Amaro for a 7-6 (7-0) victory in the second set, but fell in the final set 7-5 at the top spot to conclude the match.
