No. 2 Blazer Softball Selected to Host NCAA South Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced Friday afternoon that Valdosta State was awarded hosting duties for the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball South Regional, scheduled for May 19-22.  This marks the first time since 2016, and eighth overall, VSU has been awarded hosting duties for the regional.
 
The NCAA Division II Championships Committee chose pre-determined regional sites for the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball Championships.  Due to health and safety protocols surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is necessary to conduct all NCAA championship competition at predetermined sites.  The committee believes the sites and hosts chosen will provide an exceptional and safe experience for all participants.
 
The South Regional will begin Wednesday, May 19 and run through Saturday, May 22.  The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship May 27-31 at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver in Denver, Colo. 
 
The first NCAA Regional Rankings are scheduled to be announced next week. 
 
Participating teams in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship are scheduled to be announced May 16 by the NCAA.  Regional host institutions will host the regional regardless of if their team qualifies for the NCAA postseason or not.

The Blazers are 26-3 overall and have a Gulf South Conference-best 19-2 record in league play.  VSU has hosted the regional in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, prior to this season.
 
VSU takes its 15-game winning streak into the regular season home finale series with rival West Georgia this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.  Sunday's series finale begins at 1 p.m., and Senior Day festivities are scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
