BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Valdosta State men's basketball freshman Ricky Brown was named Gulf South Conference East Division Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This marks the second time Brown has earned Freshman of the Week this season.

Brown, a native of Valdosta, Ga., led the Blazers in scoring during Saturday's 101-84 win over Auburn Montgomery with 21 points. During Saturday's game, Brown recorded six new career bests, including points (21), minutes (24), field goals made and attempted (eight for nine), three-point field goals made (five), and steals (two). Brown beat out his previous career best for points by five as well setting a new personal best for time on the court by six. Over the course of the weekend, Brown averaged 12 points per game while shooting nine for 12 (.750) from the field with six trey balls.

Brown's performance boosted his points per game by nearly a point and a half and nearly set a new best on the glass, coming down with one less board than his current best. The freshman is shooting a blistering .512 from the field along with a .452 percentage from beyond the arch.

The Blazers get the weekend off but return back to the court Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m., to finish the regular season with a weekend series at West Florida.
