VALDOSTA, Ga. – Following the two big wins last week over Columbus State and Bentley, the Valdosta State women's basketball team moved up five spots to 18th this week in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25.
Fort Hays State remains the top team in the poll this week, followed by Lubbock Christian, Drury and North Georgia is fourth. Texas A&M-Commerce rounds out the top five. Tampa sits 15
th for the highest ranked team from the South Region, while Lee is 16
th for the highest ranked Gulf South Conference team, followed by VSU at 18
th and Union at 20
th.
Also announced on Tuesday was the D2SIDA Top 25 as VSU sits 22
nd in that poll, marking the first time this season it has been ranked. VSU was receiving votes in the preseason D2SIDA Top 25. Lee is eighth in this poll, while Tampa is 15
th, Bentley is 21
st and VSU is 22
nd. Eckerd, who was in Valdosta last weekend and also beat both Bentley and Columbus State, is among others receiving votes. VSU moved from seventh to third in the D2SIDA South Region poll this week.
The Lady Blazers (4-1) play Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at 5-0 Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga.
