VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team dropped nine strokes on Monday in the second round of the 2020 Southeastern Collegiate for a team score of 296 as it remained 16
th heading into tomorrow's final round with a 36-hole score of 601.
No. 14 West Florida leads the 18-team field with a 1-under, 36-hole score of 575 on rounds of 283 and 292. No. 16 Saint Leo moved up one spot to second with a 287 on Monday for a 36-hole score of 576, while top-ranked Georgia Southwestern carded a 294 on Monday to go along with a 283 from Sunday for a 577 score and sits third. No. 6 Columbus State fired a second round score of 291 and is fourth with a 581 score (290-291). Barry fired a tournament-low round of 280 on Monday, moving up nine spots to fifth with a 583 score (303-280).
Individually, Georgia Southwestern's top-ranked golfer in Vincent Norman is 6-under for the tournament with a 138 score on rounds of 67 and 71. Harry Butler of West Florida is second at 4-under (140, while there is a tie for third between UWF's Juan Ignacio de Giacomi and Saint Leo's Kevin Johnson at 3-under 141. Barry's top four players darted up the leaderboard as two shot in the 60's (68 and 69), while the other two fired a 71 and a 72.
The Blazers are one of six teams within four strokes of each other as Montevallo and No. 23 Florida Southern are tied for 11
th at 597, while No. 47 Nova Southeastern and Georgia College are tied for 13
th at 599 and No. 25 Limestone is 15
th at 600. The Blazers are just behind the Saints at 601 for the two rounds.
VSU played much better Monday, but was unable to make up much ground on the field. Junior
AJ Ouimet is tied for 34
thafter dropping four strokes from Sunday's 76 to a 72 Tuesday for a 148 score, while sophomore
Chase Weathers sits tied for 52
nd with a 151 score (76-75), as is junior
Wesley Hanson (75-76). Sophomore
Gage Smith is tied for 61
st with a 152 score on rounds of 79 and 73, while freshman
Ryan Pollman is 91
st with a 160 score on rounds of 78 and 82. Sophomore
Davis Smith is playing as an individual and is tied for 40
th with a 149 score on rounds of 75 and 74.
The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday as the Blazers begin at 10 a.m. on the back nine, playing with Flagler and Newberry.
