Castillo Hurtado and Carestam Named Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State junior women's tennis standout Ivana Castillo Hurtado and junior men's golfer William Carestam were named Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week.  
 
Castillo Hurtado, a native of Columbia, went 2-0 in singles this week helping the No. 17 Blazers to wins over Auburn Montgomery (5-2) and No. 47 Saint Leo (4-2).  She won both of her matches at the No. 3 singles slot and is No. 53 nationally.  She won 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-7) against AUM and won 6-0, 6-2 against Saint Leo.  She and junior teammate Charleigh Fay went 2-0 in doubles at the No. 2 position, clinching the team point against both AUM an SLU.  
 
This season, Castillo Hurtado is 13-5 in singles and 9-5 in doubles.  She is 10-2 this spring in singles and has won ten-straight matches. 
 
Carestam, a junior from Gothemburg, Sweden, and a transfer from Charleston (W.Va.), had his best outing of the season earlier this week at the Shark Invitational where he paced the Blazers finishing a season-best tied for sixth with a 4-under 209 score.  He fired rounds of 68,72,69 on the par 71, 6,750-yard Grande Oaks Golf Club Course in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  Carestam earned GSC Player of the Week honors last fall on Oct. 9, 2025, and on Mar. 26, 2026.  
 
This season, Carestam has a 72.5 stroke average in 27 rounds and is No. 112 nationally and No. 34 in the South Region.  Carestam is currently playing in the Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club in Pensacola, Fla.
