VALDOSTA, Ga. – Coming off a very disappointing performance in a three-game sweep by Lee, the Valdosta State baseball team looks to get back on track with a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Albany State and then heads to Jackson, Tenn., for a Gulf South Conference series at Union, Mar. 14-15.

Aaron Haughton having the call as the series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. ET and a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
Prior to the sweep by Lee, VSU had won eight-straight, including an 8-7, come-from-behind win over Thomas University on Tuesday evening. Lee won the opener 8-0 behind a complete game, one-hit shutout from Flames' hurler Logan Workman, who struck out 12 and allowed the one hit in the third inning.
The Flames kept the Blazers off balance all weekend as VSU hit just .131 for the series on 11 of 84 from the dish with six runs scored, one double, one triple and four RBI. VSU had drew three free passes and fanned 24 times. Lee hit .299 with 29 hits, 20 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, including a grand slam and 20 RBI. VSU allowed 20 runs with 19 earned runs as a staff in the series, while walking 13 batters and fanning 25. Lee walked just three Blazers in the series and allowed just two earned runs (0.72 ERA) and six total runs.
VSU fell to 4-4 in Gulf South Conference play and 12-6 overall following the week. Albany State enters Tuesday's game with an 8-9 record and won one of three games against No. 5 Tampa with a 3-2 win in the opener in 12 innings, scoring the winning run on an error. The Spartans won the final two games, 5-1 and 3-0 to win the series.
Following the losses, VSU fell from fourth to eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Region Top Ten this week. The Blazers were ranked 11
th nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 25 last week.
For the season, the Golden Rams are hitting .242 on 131 of 541 from the plate, scoring 69 runs with 17 doubles and four home runs, while driving in 61. The team is slugging .296 and reaching base at a .358 clip with 77 walks and 23 hit batsmen. ASU has struck out 156 times this season, while it is 36 of 50 in stolen bases.
Individually, Chasen Roulhac leads the team with a .322 average for the season. He is 19 of 59 from the dish with eight runs scored and six RBI. Roulhac is slugging .322 and reaching base at a .452 clip with a team-high 12 walks and two hit batsmen, while going 5 of 8 in stolen bases. Travis Ray, Jr., is second in average at a .305 clip with 18 hits in 59 at bats, while scoring nine runs with four doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. He is slugging .475 and reaching base ta a .408 clip, while going 8 of 8 in stolen bases.
The staff has been pretty good for the Golden Rams this season as it boasts a 3.00 ERA in 150 innings, allowing 121 hits, 67 runs – 50 earned, walked 68 and fanned 143 as teams are hitting .216 against it. Blake Howell is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA in a team-high 38 innings of work. He has allowed 32 hits, 13 runs – 11 earned, walked 15 and fanned 34. Teams are hitting .225 against him. Second on the team in innings pitched is Malik Barrington at 30.1. Barrington is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA, allowing 23 hits, 16 runs – 13 earned, walked ten and fanned 32. Aaron Ginn is third in innings pitched at 28.1 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1-1 record. Ginn has allowed 27 hits, 16 runs – ten earned, walked nine and fanned 25.
VSU dropped an 8-1 decision in Albany last season and won 11-4 in Valdosta. The Blazers are 14-5 against ASU since 2011, but the Golden Rams have won two of the last three meetings in the series. The Blazers have won seven of the their last nine in Albany. VSU hosts Albany State for the return game on Tues., Mar. 17 at 5 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.
Union enters with an 8-12 record overall and a 3-6 mark in the GSC. The Bulldogs snapped a five-game skid with a 5-0 win over Montevallo in the series finale on Saturday. Union hosts Harding on Tuesday, before welcoming the Blazers for the weekend series.
Heading into the week, Union is hitting .232 for the season with 149 hits in 641 at bats, while scoring 114 runs with 36 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs and 96 RBI. The Bulldogs are slugging .368 and reaching base at a .336 clip with 74 walks and 29 hit batsmen. Union is 22 of 26 in stolen bases and has 35 errors (.951) leading to 26 unearned runs.
Ryan Lee leads the team in average with a .286 clip on 18 of 63 from the plate, scoring 14 runs with three doubles, five home runs and 16 RBI. He is slugging .571 and reaching base at a .408 clip. Josh Bozoian is third in average at .266 and leads the team with 21 hits, 16 runs scored, four doubles, a team-high eight home runs and leads the team with 18 RBI. He is slugging .620 to lead the team and is reaching base at a .310 clip with three walks and two hit batsmen. Austin Zeitler is fourth in average at .257 and second in hits with 19. He is 7 of 8 in stolen bases to lead the team.
On the bump, the Bulldogs have a 4.89 ERA in 165.2 innings, allowing 159 hits, 116 runs – 90 earned, walked 90 and fanned 171 as teams are hitting .249 against them. Walker Adkisson leads the team with a 3-1 record and has a 3.72 ERA in a team-high 38.2 innings. Adkisson has allowed 35 hits, 23 runs – 16 earned, walked 16 and fanned 25. Ryan Mets is second in innings pitched with 27, surrendering 30 hits, 22 runs – 18 earned, walked 17 and fanned 33 to lead the team. Brandon Maxwell is third innings pitched with 26. He has allowed 24 hits, 13 earned runs, walked seven and fanned 25.
The Blazers lead the all-time series with Union 14-8 and are 6-3 in Jackson, Tenn. Last season VSU won two of three games in Valdosta and have won five of the last eight games.
For the season, VSU is hitting .258 with 146 hits in 565 at bats, while scoring 106 runs with 26 doubles, five triples, 18 home runs and 88 RBI. The team is slugging .418 and reaching base at a .354 clip with 72 walks and 14 hit batsmen. VSU is 14 of 23 in stolen bases and has a .967 fielding percentage with 22 errors leading to 13 unearned runs.

Nick Lewis leads the team with 23 hits and a .404 average with 12 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 12 RBI. Lewis is slugging a team-high .702 and reaching base at a .485 clip with eight walks and one hit batsmen, while striking out just six times for the fewest on the team among every day starters. Zach Blankenship is 2-1 with 4.45 ERA in six appearances and five starts. He has pitched 30.1 innings, allowing 30 hits, 16 runs – 15 earned, walked seven and fanned 31. Aleywine also pitches and is 1-0 with 0.71 ERA in seven relief appearances. He has three saves in 12.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs – one earned, walked nine and fanned 19. Teams are hitting .098 against him.
Following the series with Union, the Blazers return home to host Albany State (Mar. 17) and Brewton-Parker (Mar. 18) before heading to West Alabama for a three-game series Mar. 21-22.
