VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team opened the 2020 Gulf South Conference slate with a 7-0 win over Shorter Tuesday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. The Lady Blazers improved to 2-2 on the year, while Shorter fell to 0-1.

Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir won at No. 2, 6-0 to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Starreveld won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 for a 2-0 lead, while sophomore
Eva Rivoal won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1 for a 3-0 lead and VSU clinched the match at No. 1 as senior Estee Widdershoven won 6-2, 6-0 over Melinda Chrun. Langestein won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3, while freshman
Julia Saving won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3. Bjork Brynjarsdottir won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 to conclude the match.
The Lady Blazers head to Rollins for the first road match of the year on Feb. 24, and then will return home for five-straight matches beginning with Embry-Riddle on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
