NCAA Division II Region Rankings

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 18-ranked Valdosta State softball team moved to fourth in the third NCAA South Region rankings, released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.  
 
West Florida remained on top, followed by Florida Tech and Alabama Huntsville moved from fourth to third this week.  VSU moved from third to fourth, while Tampa moved from eighth to fifth this week. Saint Leo sits sixth, followed by Mississippi College and Rollins to round out the top eight.  West Alabama remained ninth this week as West Georgia moved into the rankings for the first time at tenth.  As of today, no Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team (SIAC) is in the top ten, but the conference tournament winner from the SIAC will earn a berth at one of the top eight positions.  
 
The 64-team field for the 2019 NCAA Division II Softball Championship will be announced on an online selection show on NCAA.com on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. ET with eight selections coming from the South Region. Winners of the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournaments will receive an automatic bid into the regional with the final five spots being determined by the NCAA selection committee as at-large selections. 
 
If the NCAA Championship began today, West Florida would host a four-team, double-elimination tournament in Pensacola, Fla., with VSU, Tampa and Rollins, while Alabama Huntsville, Saint Leo and Mississippi College would travel to Melbourne, Fla., with Florida Tech as the host, May 9-11.  The winners of the two regionals would then face off in a best-of-three Super Regional at the highest remaining seed, May 16-17.  The NCAA Division II College World Series is scheduled for May 23-27 at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colo.  
 
VSU is looking for its 14^th-straight trip to the NCAA Championship in 2019, and the 18^thappearance in program history.  VSU is 55-36 all-time in the NCAA Championship, winning the national title in 2012. 
 
VSU enters conference tournament at 33-14 and is the No. 4-seed in the tournament.  The Blazers will face No. 5-seed West Alabama at 4 p.m. ET Thursday in Pensacola, Fla., at West Florida.  Fans can access links to live stats, audio/video streaming, ticket information and more at vstateblazers.com on the softball schedule page.  Spencer Van Horn will have the call of the tournament for the Blazers on 107.5 FM.
