VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 19 Valdosta State softball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon, 8-0 and 14-1, both in run-rule games. The Blazers improved to 29-12 overall and 12-10 in Gulf South Conference play.

For the twin bill, VSU hit .444 with 20 hits in 45 at bats, scored 22 runs with four home runs and 20 RBI. VSU walked nine hits and was hit twice with five strikeouts as the team slugged .711 and reached base at a .544 clip. Junior
Haley Garrett was a perfect 4 for 4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while four different Blazers belted home runs in the doubleheader. Junior
Taylor Strickland had a team-high four RBI, along with one home run and junior
Logan Hill scored a team-high four runs. In the circle, senior
Kasie Johnson pitched a complete game shutout, allowing two hits, walking none and fanning seven. Sophomore
Caylie Van Auken also pitched a complete game, allowing three hits, one earned run, walked none and fanned 12. CBU hit just .143 for the doubleheader.
In the opener, VSU scored a single run in the first inning as sophomore
Fallyn Johnson singled up the middle for a 1-0 lead. VSU added two more runs in the third, one on a throwing error and the other on a sacrifice fly.
VSU plated four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run home run from Strickland and an infield RBI single from F. Johnson, for a 7-0 lead. In the fifth, Hill drew a leadoff walk and junior
Dream Aaron moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Junior
Natalia Bellinger came up with the walk-off RBI single down the left field line for an 8-0 score.
The nightcap saw CBU jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but it was short lived, however, as VSU plated seven runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by back-to-back jacks from Bellinger and freshman
Samantha Richards for a 7-1 score.
VSU added four more runs in the second helped out by two errors from the Buccaneers as junior
Lacey Crandall reached on a miscue, plating two runs and Garrett hit a two RBI single through the right side. Three more runs crossed the plate in the third for a 14-1 score on a two-run home run from redshirt freshman
Kiley Robb and a fielder's choice RBI from Richards.
The 14 runs scored tied the season-high as VSU plated 14 runs the first weekend of the season against Miles College in Gulf Shores, Ala. It also marked the ninth time VSU has scored double figure runs in a game this season and was the 10
th run-rule win of the season and third in the last four games.
