Caylie Van Auken, the No. 19 Blazers used a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning from junior
Lacey Crandall for a 2-0 walk-off victory over visiting Christian Brothers Sunday morning. VSU swept the series and won its 30
th game of the season.
Van Auken was masterful throughout as she allowed one hit in the eighth inning on a single up the middle. Despite that, she fanned 14 in the game for a career-high and it was her fifth game of double-digit strikeouts this season. She didn't walk a batter in the contest. Two miscues by the Blazers were the only other two base runners for the Buccaneers.
CBU (9-33, 1-22 GSC) was up to the task on the mound as Macy Cumming allowed nine hits over 7.1 innings, two earned runs, walked three and fanned two, but the Blazers were unable to get the timely hit, leaving nine stranded in the game.
VSU (30-12, 13-10 GSC) redshirt freshman
Kiley Robb went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a double, while Crandall belted the walk-off home run, going 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI.
The Blazers return to action next Friday and Saturday at Shorter as the doubleheader, which was scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 versus Embry-Riddle at Steel's Diamond, has been cancelled. VSU the hosts Albany State in a doubleheader Apr. 23 and West Georgia to close the regular season Apr. 27-28.
